Deek Deek Dominique est le directeur général du Laff, et comme son frère, elle a commencé à travailler ici très jeune, en servant de la nourriture pendant l'été. Elle avait un petit chariot d'épicerie équipé de café, de pâtisseries et de boissons gazeuses, et faisait le tour de tous les vendeurs de fleurs et de légumes du marché, prenant les commandes pour le déjeuner et apprenant à connaître le quartier. Au fil des ans, elle a occupé presque tous les postes disponibles dans l'entreprise : elle a été serveuse de table, cuisinière, barman, préparatrice de sous-marins dans les Quiznos, comptable, responsable du marketing, gestionnaire, etc. En 2007, après avoir obtenu son diplôme en marketing au Collège Algonquin et avoir appris tout ce qu'elle pouvait sur la comptabilité auprès de son grand-père décédé, Deek s'est retrouvée dans un poste à plein temps, faisant entrer le bar dans le 21e siècle, ajoutant les médias sociaux, un site web et gérant le personnel et la comptabilité. Aujourd'hui, elle a cédé une partie du contrôle à sa famille qui la soutient et continue de gérer le marketing, la publicité et de superviser toutes les opérations du bar.

Que vous l'appeliez Foof, Frenchie, Frankie ou Francois, il a travaillé au Laff la plus grande partie de sa vie, en commençant à l'âge de quatorze ans seulement, à transporter des cendriers et à vider des pintes de bouteilles pendant le Lucky Ron Show. Il a déménagé à Vancouver en 2008, où il a occupé divers postes dans différents restaurants et bars, et a obtenu son niveau 3 du WSET alors qu'il dirigeait le bar Wine Room du Joey Bentall One. À son retour à Ottawa en 2014, il a été accueilli à bras ouverts chez lui, ici au Laff. Bien que ses fonctions soient trop nombreuses pour être énumérées, il se concentre principalement sur les opérations quotidiennes du bar, notamment la sélection des bières (et la dégustation !), la communication avec le personnel et les clients, ainsi que la garantie d'un service de la plus haute qualité possible.

TODDDDD aka “The Toddfather” began working for the Laff in 2003 when the Quiznos was introduced. It was a time when the bar was undergoing changes due to the smoking ban in bars, and the clientele was shifting. Todd helped Jill manage the Quiznos, and took over some of the repairs and maintenance of the bar and the rooming house above the bar. Todd was an integral member of the renovation team who tore out the Quiznos and brought the Laff back to life. Today, he maintains the equipment, and leaseholds, ensuring things are running smoothly. He’s oft found enjoying a pint and getting to know all the regulars. In 2025, he began reducing his time in the bar, and increasing his time at the cottage and abroad!

Our matriarch; our mama bear. Jill began working here in 1985, doing the books, and learning the ropes. Her dad, James, who bought into the business in 1966, brought her on during a transitional period for the business. She worked with Pierre, her late husband and father to Deek & Francois, until he retired in 1998. She then took over management of the bar and rooming house. She guided the business into a new era as the smoking bylaw was introduced in 2001. That bylaw changed the way the industry was run, so diversifying the business was a necessity. In 2015, the next big change happened, and Jill championed the change back to the Laff’s original roots, hosting live music and welcoming happy customers. She’s a big fan of live music, and you can often find her catching some tunes with her hunny. You’ll find her lugging cases of liquor from her car, bent over her desk working on various licenses, and negotiating rates for the business. In 2025, she began taking a step back and working only toward retirement.
